B3N Frontier

What will more computing require from energy, water and data?

Frontier is an early research and venture-exploration effort. It is investigating how computing capacity can grow while accounting for the people and systems that already depend on power and water.

Current questions

Treat infrastructure claims as questions until the evidence is strong enough.

  1. 01

    Power

How can additional computing capacity be developed without ignoring homes, communities and other essential users of electricity?

  2. 02

    Cooling and water

Which cooling approaches fit the climate, water constraints and operating conditions of a specific place?

  3. 03

    Heat and flexibility

Where could waste heat be useful, or compute demand move to periods when energy is more available?

  4. 04

    Distributed infrastructure

When can smaller or distributed systems create practical advantages over a single concentrated facility?

  5. 05

    Data

How should provenance, quality and context be preserved in the systems that AI products depend on?

Useful collaboration

Bring evidence, facilities or a question worth testing.

Relevant collaborators may include researchers, universities, infrastructure operators, energy companies, technical founders and organisations with access to useful data or facilities.

A proposal should explain the question, the contributor's relevant work and what could be investigated together. Frontier does not present proposed research as completed research, or a possible pilot as operating infrastructure.

Next step

Share the question, evidence or facility you think B3N should examine.
